Q: What is the message of Hidden Beauty?
A: The beauty of the God of the Bible is hidden within the art, history, and lives of people in Japan. Whether interested in Japanese culture or not, you will gain a fresh perspective on how God can be worshiped in daily life.
Q: What prompted you to write Hidden Beauty?
A: We continue to see God work in the lives of many in our community as they wrestle with what it means to be Japanese and a Christian. Through this book, I share some of their stories as well as the experiences and conversations with so many others.
Q: What did you enjoy most about writing the book?
A: Helping Japanese articulate connections between their art, life, and faith and working with them to get it written down. I love seeing their excitement as the stories actually come out in print.
Q: What other writing projects are you working on?
A: My next book will be called God's Word for Artists which meditates on 75 verses in the Bible that give a foundation for the power of art to communicate and build community, two characteristics that make it especially effective in foreign missions. I am also working with an illustrator on another children's book The Tsunami Violin which tells the story of a young tree whose life is ripped apart by the 2011 tsunami in Japan. Through the course of the story, she finds new meaning and purpose. It's based on a moving true story that I can't wait to share with everyone!
